Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has disclosed that France striker Karim Benzema will be fit to feature in the club’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg match against Liverpool at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, March 15.
Los Blancos defeated Liverpool 5-2 in the first leg at Anfield on February 21. They are looking to rim the Premier League side over two legs to advance to the quarter-finals.
Benzema picked up a knock in training and missed Madrid’s session Wednesday, March 8.
Ahead of Madrid’s Champions League home game against Liverpool, Benzema will not play in Real Madrid’s Laliga fixture. The fixture is with Espanol on Saturday, March 11, at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Ancelotti confirmed that the 35-year-old veteran striker will be available for the club’s Champions League game.
“He will be available for Wednesday’s game,” The Athletic quoted Ancelotti as saying
“He’s had a knock on his ankle, he’s swollen that ankle, he’s been trying to recover but he’s starting training individually today (Friday).
“Rodrygo will play tomorrow [vs Espanyol], yes as a centre-forward.”
