Super Eagles Beat Sierra Leone, Qualify for AfCON…

Super Eagles Beat Sierra Leone, 3 to 2, in Group A of the Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON) Qualification. It was a hard-fought victory for the Super Eagles on Sunday at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.

Kenneth Omeruo assisted Victor Osimhen to score the first goal in the 19th minute of the match. Osimhen did the second goal after assistance provided by Joe Aribo in the 32nd minute in the first half o the match.

Mohammed Bundu of Sierra Leone dropped the ball in Super Eagles’ net nine minutes into the second half. Augustus Kargo provided the second goal for Sierra Leone to equalize in the 84th minute. This was after Kelechi Iheanacho replaced Samuel Chukwueze, a Villarreal winger, and Bright-Osayi Samuel brought in for Kevin Akpoguma, a German-Nigerian defender.

Lastly, Zaidu Sanusi provided a good assist to Iheanacho to score the winning goal for Nigeria in the 95th minute.

The Nigeria Super Eagles are in first position in Group A with 12 points from five matches. Guinnea-Bissau took the second position with 10 points, and Sierra Leone dropped into third with five points from the same five matches. At the same time, Sao Tome and Principe took the last position with a point from the same number of games.

On September 4, 2023, Nigeria will battle with Sao Tome and Principe in their next match at the Abuja National Stadium.
