Barcelona’s star defender Ronald Araujo has discussed his desire for Catalan legend Lionel Messi to return to the club when his Paris Saint-Germain contract ends in the summer.
Araujo, who played with Messi for two seasons before the Argentine moved to PSG, has said that a reunion would benefit both Barcelona and Messi and hoped that both parties would be able to make it work.
Messi left Barcelona for Paris after 21 years in the City following a wage conflict as the Catalan giants’ financial troubles meant they could not afford their captain’s salary at the time. However, Araujo feels that the door to Messi should never be closed and hopes that a reunion is in the cards.
Speaking to Infobae ahead of the all-important El Clasico fixture against Real Madrid, the Uruguayan defender said, “I’d love Messi to return. He is the best player in the world, and Barcelona is his home. His return would help us to try to win another Champions League.”
