Everton to face points reduction over infringement

The Premier League has indicted Everton for an alleged violation of financial fair play rules.

This follows a 10-month question into the Merseyside club’s transfer spending.

According to the rules, clubs can only lose a maximum of £105 million across three years.

But in May 2022, Burnley and Leeds United wrote a joint letter to question whether rules had been breached.

Everton has documented losses of £372 million in the past three years, referring to the coronavirus as a key reason.

However, they have now been charged with an alleged breach of the same rules champions Manchester City were charged with last month.

Everton insists they haven’t done anything wrong and said they will “strongly contest” the accusation.

Everton could be fined or face a substantial points deduction if found guilty. An independent commission will assess the charges before making a conclusion.
