Barrister Julius Abure Takes over the leadership of the Labour Party. Abure addressed a world press conference to formally declare his full takeover as the Labour Party’s National Chairman at the national secretariat of the party.
According to him, the press conference is to properly put the legal issues surrounding the leadership in their proper perspective. It’s pertinent to state categorically and clearly that Labour Party has no faction in the party. Labour Party has only one leadership, and that leadership is the National Working Committee led by Barrister Julius Abure.
Recall that some few members of the National Working Committee (4) and appointed as Officers of the party. Acting upon the restraining court order granted by the FCT High Court. A careful look at the originating summons pending before the high court, the suspended deputy chairman of the party Apapa Lamidi Bashiru and his cohorts were asking their relief in the final judgement to direct NEC to appoint interim national officers for the party. Out of their desperation, they did not wait for the outcome of the final judgement but employed self-help and appointed themselves as national officers of the party.
However, Justice J. Muazu of the FCT High Court overruled our objection to the court jurisdiction on the 12th of May, 2023. On the same day, we filed the notice of appeal, and on 17th May, the appeal was entered at the court of appeal. The appeal number is CA-ABJ-CV/5572023. We have also filed our appellant brief of argument, which has been served on the trial court. By necessary implication, the FCT high court ceases to have jurisdiction over the matter, having successfully filed our notice of appeal, transmitted records and filed a motion for a stay of proceedings in the FCT High Court.
