Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state has been declared the winner of the Ebonyi South Senatorial District senatorial election. Umahi, who ran on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, garnered 28,378 votes, defeating his opponents, Linus Okorie of the Labour Party and Eleje of All Progressives Grand Alliance, who scored 25,496 and 11,398 votes, respectively. On Monday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Augustine Ogugua Egwu, announced the results at the Afikpo North Local Government Area Headquarters. Mr Umahi was declared the election winner, having scored the highest votes cast to defeat his opponent.
In another development, Iduma Igariwey, the member representing Afikpo North/South federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Ebonyi state, has defeated his APC rival, Eni Chima. Mr Igariwey, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Vice Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, polled a total of 24,649 votes, while Mr Chima got 11,296 votes. The result was announced at the constituency headquarters in Afikpo North. Mr Igariwey, a two-term lawmaker, is seeking re-election for the third term in the House of Representatives.
Furthermore, Nkemkanma Kama, the House of Representatives candidate of the Labour Party, emerged as the winner of the Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo Federal Constituency election. Mr Kama scored 19,921 votes, defeating his closest rival of the APC, Felix Igboke, who scored 14,231, while the PDP candidate, Livinus Makwe, scored 7,506 votes to come third. The INEC Returning Officer, Onu Omaka, who announced the results, declared Mr Kama the election winner, having satisfied all the law requirements.
