Dr. Adeniran Tella, the Resident Electoral Chairman (REC) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State, has announced that the collation of state elections results will resume at 8 am in Monday. Ibadan North, Ibadan South East, and Ibadan South West Local Government Areas’ results are still awaited.
It was reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, was leading in 29 local governments; however, as of press time, his lead has widened to 30 LGs with the addition of Ibadan North East Local Government.
Despite the allegations of malpractice and irregularities in some parts of the country, the Oyo State election has been relatively peaceful. Nevertheless, some people have expressed concern about the sudden postponement of the collation of results, which could lead to anxiety and suspicion among the public.
The delay could also give rise to speculation and conspiracy theories regarding the authenticity of the election process. People hope that INEC will provide adequate explanations and ensure that the collation of results resumes as planned on Monday, transparently and credibly, that reflects the people’s wishes.
