Lagos 2023 Elections: Gbadebo Alleges Election Rigging.

Gbadebo Rhodes, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Lagos state, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of colluding with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig the general elections. Rhodes made the allegation while speaking on Arise News on Monday. The presidential and National Assembly elections took place on Saturday.

Rhodes claimed that there were irregularities in the election orchestrated by the apex electoral body (INEC) and that the moment the transmission of results did not happen from polling units, the polls were compromised. He further disclosed that the election was marred with violence and victimisation of LP members and voters by the ruling party in the state.

The governorship candidate claimed that some LP members were attacked in Saturday’s poll, and some are currently hiding. However, he appreciated the Nigerian Army’s efforts to help. Rhodes noted that the threats were widespread across Lagos State, but supporters of the party and good governance were resolute.

Rhodes further decried the unprofessional level of security put in place by the Nigeria Police Force. He stated that in many situations, the police would leave, and ‘area boys’ would come and scatter the site. He opined that the security apparatus of the election needs much work.

Rhodes maintained that his party would not accept the election results, as they have all their original polling unit results. He alleged that INEC has been colluding with the ruling party in Lagos state and described the situation as highly shocking.
