With just five days until the governorship election, Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has called on the Igbo community to vote for the APC. In a Facebook post, Igbokwe urged the Igbo in Lagos to show their appreciation for the hospitality they have received by voting for the APC on Saturday.
Igbokwe emphasised that this election allowed the Igbo to strengthen their relationship with the Yoruba community. He stated, “Please vote for APC all the way.” Igbokwe also recognised the Yoruba community’s efforts in creating a conducive environment for the Igbo to thrive in Lagos and the South West, leading to powerful business empires’ growth.
“We have made significant progress in Lagos since 1970,” said Igbokwe. “Now is the time to cement and renew our relationship with the Yoruba nation that dates back to the 50s and 60s. There is a lot at stake in Lagos. The Igbo have built huge business empires in Lagos, and we are not taking any of it for granted. The Yoruba are good and accommodating people.”
Igbokwe also acknowledged the Igbo’s support for their son, who was on the ballot in the presidential elections last Saturday. He emphasised the importance of moving forward and building new bridges of hope, friendship, brotherhood, mutual respect, and understanding.
