The British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ben Llewellyn-Jones, has criticized Femi Fani-Kayode, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), over controversial statements made during the presidential campaign.
In an interview with Nigeria Info, Llewellyn-Jones said that Fani-Kayode made derogatory remarks while campaigning for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who won the presidential election under the APC party. Fani-Kayode had spoken harshly about other candidates and their parties during his campaign speeches.
The Department of State Services (DSS) later summoned Fani-Kayode after he tweeted that Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the (PDP), met with top generals before the elections.
Commenting on these events, Llewellyn-Jones expressed his dissatisfaction with FFK’s conduct, saying, “It is wrong in my view that he will speak on behalf of a party and that party has not distanced itself from him and say stop doing that. It is wrong to say that.”
The High Commissioner also stated that the UK government would issue visa bans to people undermining democracy, and there are already 5-10 persons on the watchlist. However, he added that the UK government could not publish their names due to laws preventing them from doing so.
Here is FFK’s response to Ben,
