The 2023 Democracy Day: Low Key Celebration.

The 2023 Democracy Day celebration will be done on a low key. Gorge Akume confirmed this during his speech at the World Press Conference. During the conference to herald the 2023 Democracy Day Celebration, George Akume, the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), expressed the purpose of changing the Democracy Day Celebration from May 29 to June 12. To honour the heroes who championed the struggles and made extraordinary sacrifices to enthronement the democratic process in Nigeria from 1999 till date.

We are all aware that the election in 1993 was believed to be the freest in the country. But unfortunately, the election was annulled with tragic consequences. Former President Muhammadu Buhari decided in his wisdom to write the wrong that has visited this country with disastrous consequences by the Military administration. Some Nigerians paid the supreme sacrifice and will continue to be remembered by all of us today. They planted the seed of democracy that has germinated, and we are celebrating over 22 years of interrupted democracy.

2023 Democracy Day Celebration

To commemorate this year’s anniversary, it is expedient for Citizens to take stock of all nation has fared so far. In light of this, the theme of this year’s Democracy Celebration is:

“Hope Re-Assured.”

We all know that nations are great because the citizenry has hope that tomorrow will be better than today.

It is pertinent to note that having had an elaborate presidential inauguration this year, activities to make 2023 June 12 Democracy Day will be low-key with two major activities: The World Press Conference, held today, and the Presidential Broadcast, which will be made on Monday in the morning at 7.am by the President and Commander in Chief, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) Asiwaju of Lagos.
