Suspend the General Election: Arewa Youth Assembly Tells INEC

The Arewa Youth Assembly, a group comprising youths from the 19 Northern states and Abuja, has called for suspending the general election in Nigeria. In a statement released in Kaduna, the group cited fuel and naira scarcity as reasons for the suspension, stating that any election under the current situation in the country would not be accepted. The group added that failure to suspend the elections would be considered as rigging targeted at poor Nigerians.

According to the Speaker of the group, Muhammad Danlami, it has become imperative for the Arewa Youth Assembly to call for the immediate suspension of the 2023 general elections to enable Nigerians, particularly menial workers return to where they registered to vote. The group expressed concerns over the increasing spate of attacks on security formations, private businesses, and innocent Nigerians, particularly in the South-East and South-West part of the country.

To prevent the denial of Nigerians’ privilege from electing who will lead the country in the next four years, the group has urged the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission to suspend all processes leading to the election.
