Seun Okin Speaks on NBC Sanction

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) recently imposed a fine on Channels TV for comments made by Labour Party Vice-Presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed, during a program. According to NBC, these remarks violated its code, which prohibits broadcasts that encourage or incite, are repugnant to public feelings, contain offensive references to individuals or organizations (whether alive or dead), or are generally disrespectful to human dignity.

Seun Okin, Political Correspondent for Channels TV News, also participated in the program that incurred the penalty. In response to the sanction, he said,

“Despite the challenges, we at Channels news remain committed to our duty to inform, educate, and entertain our audience. Here at Channels, we engage in reasonable and responsible journalism, even in the face of widespread and reckless practices. Acting with integrity, even when it may be unpopular with the crowd or online mob. Our mission is not only for today but for the future and sustainability of our profession. While others may seek to destroy it, we are determined to protect it.”

Mr Okin assured his viewers that Channels TV would maintain objectivity and professionalism, no matter its obstacles. “We will continue to stand for what is right and speak truth to power, even in the face of adversity. Our channel will remain brave, strong, and resilient and not let our voices be silenced. Nigeria belongs to all of us.”

In summary, despite the recent fine imposed by NBC, Channels TV remains committed to ethical journalism practices and maintaining its integrity as a news outlet.
