Rescheduled Election: State Governors Step Up Campaigns

In the wake of the postponement of the gubernatorial and State Houses of Assembly elections, many political parties have been ramping up their campaigns. According to reports, this has become a make-or-break battle in several states, with the threat posed by the OObedientMovement causing panic in many Southern states, including the South-East, South-South, and Lagos State.

The one-week extension of the election date by INEC has allowed political parties to make further efforts to buy over the hearts of the masses.

For instance, in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appeared in various strategic locations to win over the Obidients in Lagos. This loss has seemingly boosted the morale of the Labour Party (LP) candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhode-Vivour, who sees it as an opportunity to shake off the APC in Nigeria’s economic capital.

Rivers State Governor Wike

Similarly, in Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Wike has been trying to soothe the feelings of the Igbo people in the State. On Thursday, he hosted a delegation of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, during which he said he nobody told him about the Igbo presidency. Despite the believed he worked against Obi, Wike claims that the LP presidential candidate is the protagonist of the just-concluded election.

The APC in Rivers State is also attempting to counter the popularity of the LP candidate, with former transport minister Rotimi Amaechi promising Ndigbo a fair deal if Tonye Cole emerges as the winner of the guber poll.

In Enugu State, PDP’s Peter Mbah has been visible in several places. These includes churches, markets, and streets, trying to woo as many voters as possible. This is unlike before when whoever emerges as the PDP candidate is automatically considered elected as Governor. However, all that has changed with the Obi wave that swept away the party’s candidates during the presidential poll.

Anambra State Governor Soludo

Governor Soludo is doing everything in Anambra State to have most All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) members in the State House of Assembly. In a recent video, he urged citizens to vote for APGA lawmakers as he would not work with other party member. There would not be infrastructure development in areas without APGA. He said such a lawmaker would only receive a salary and go home but would not get his attention for infrastructure.

Governor Soludo had earlier claimed the video was doctored. Mr Chris Aburime said that Obi’s call to vote for LP candidates was deceptive and was meant to lay landmines for Soludo. He stated that the Anambra people should go all out next Saturday and vote for APGA. Chris also told the people to vote APGA if they want the developmental strides of Governor Soludo to continue.
