Reno Omokri has criticized supporters of Peter Obi for attacking Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka. Soyinka recently made statements regarding the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, specifically regarding Obi and his running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.
In a recent interview, Soyinka revealed that he had contacted Obi three times before the election, warning him that losing would be his supporters’ fault.
During a chat with Arise TV, Soyinka criticized Baba-Ahmed for using fascistic language in a recent interview and displaying a “kind of do-or-die attitude and provocation” that goes against democratic values.
Soyinka emphasized that Baba-Ahmed had no right to threaten the judiciary and dictate to the supreme judge of the nation.
The Nobel laureate’s statements have drawn criticism from Obi’s supporters, known as Obidients. Omokri expressed no surprise that Obi’s supporters insulted Soyinka because of his comments, despite his previous support for the LP candidate.
Omokri sympathized with activists, journalists, and entertainers who support Obi and the Obidients, warning that they too may face insults like Soyinka in the future.
Omokri tweeted, “If Obidients can insult Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, despite his earlier support for Peter Obi, just because of a small criticism he gave, who are you that they won’t take to the cleaners, after using you? Unless you are willing to keep praising Obi till infinity!”
