The Nigerian Supreme Court has proven itself repeatedly to be the Chamber of absurdities… I am not holding my breath over the outcome of the Tribunal. Dele Farotimi, when asked a question on his assessment of the Presidential Election Tribunal, responded, Nigerian is a funny country. We had an election, but we are in court and waiting for the court to tell us the winner.
We are forced to discuss, analyse and debate madness in the place of reality. According to Farotimi, his views on the Nigerian judiciary are in the public space – He has no confidence in the judiciary. We were told that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man. This presumes an independent judiciary. It also presumes the rule of law, the presence of citizens who are all equal before the law. None of these is the case in Nigeria.
Nigerian Judiciary
Nigerian Supreme Court has proven itself repeatedly to be the chamber of absurdities. We have witnessed the Akpabio insanity. The hopelessness of Uzodinma in Imo state. These are but examples of madness that have come to permeate our judiciary.
The Tribunal has the opportunity to redefine exactly the meaning of justice in Nigeria. It must do justice. Look at the law of INEC and decide whether the man known as Bola Ahmed Tinubu satisfied the conditions set as necessary to be elected as the President of Nigeria. However, it is entirely up to the panel of Judges to decide what they deserve to be remembered for. Some are being quoted in the Nigerian Law Schools and in the courts – Kayode Eso, Okputa. History will remember them.
I’m not saying it must declare one person or the other.
