Salihu Lukman, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman for the North-west, has urged the party to hold a national emergency convention to elect a new leadership.
In a statement released on Friday, Lukman also proposed the resignation of the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
Lukman emphasised the need for a change in leadership, suggesting that a new National Chairman who is a Christian should take over from Adamu, who is Muslim. He argued that this would help to create a more diverse leadership structure for the party.
The party Chieftain also pointed out that Omisore has become a source of division in Osun State and needs to resign as National Secretary. Lukman suggested that a new unifying National Secretary should be elected to help bring the state back to its former status in national politics.
Lukman highlighted the importance of selecting leaders who can unify their respective states, saying that any member of the National Working Committee who cannot perform this role should be replaced.
He called for a national emergency convention to elect new leaders, saying that the current leadership hierarchy would result in the election of a Muslim from the northeast as the successor to Adamu.
Lukman expressed confidence that Senator Adamu would resign to allow a new National Chairman of the APC to emerge.
