President Muhammadu Buhari recently inaugurated a 50MW gas-electricity plant in Borno State, bringing immense joy to its residents.
The commissioning of this new plant is expected to guarantee a stable supply of electricity in the state and surrounding areas.
Residents of Maiduguri expressed their satisfaction with the project, which they believe will remain memorable for several years.
Usman Ibrahim, a resident, said his relief, stating that “due to the activities of vandals, particularly insurgents, we have suffered from an inadequate power supply for several years.” The project will be a much-needed relief for the residents facing the challenge of an unstable power supply.
The new plant is also expected to revive the business hub of the Northeast, with many residents hoping that it will attract investors and create employment opportunities.
Sani Abubakar, a trader in Maiduguri, believes that “the electricity project will restore the glory of Maiduguri as the major business hub in the Northeast.” Other residents share the same sentiment and hope the plant will attract more regional investors.
Borno State, particularly Maiduguri, has been a hotbed for terrorist activities by Boko Haram. However, with the intervention of the Nigerian Military, the situation has improved.
The commissioning of the 50MW gas-electricity plant is another step towards the state’s recovery and development.
