Labour Party (LP) Supporter Loses Hand Following Attack at Obi’s Lagos Rally

During the final presidential campaign rally of the Labour Party in Lagos State last week, a supporter had his hand amputated after being attacked. The identity of the victim remains unknown. The Director General of Obi/Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Akin Osuntokun, spoke about the incident on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The 2023 Verdict. Osuntokun expressed concern regarding voter suppression through violence and suggested that he did not have confidence in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for Saturday.

Osuntokun also mentioned the issue of over-voting, which occurred in the Osun State elections. Despite introducing the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, the tribunal used the over-voting to nullify the Peoples Democratic Party’s victory in the state. The incident is another cause for concern.

The Lagos police confirmed that the attack on supporters of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, injured four individuals. The police described the attack as “regrettable” and said it happened approximately 15km from the rally venue. They assured the State Criminal Investigations Department (CID) would investigate and prosecute the attackers.

The attack took place in the Ilasan area of Eti-Osa Local Government, and the Jakande Ward Chairman of the Labour Party issued a warning about potential violence during the election period.
