Labour Party Deploys 600,000 Observers to Monitor Polling Units for Electoral Misconduct

The Nigerian Labour Party has announced that it has deployed over 600,000 polling unit scouts nationwide to monitor electoral activities that violate the electoral process and notify the party’s leadership. The scouts will be particularly vigilant for any vote-buying attempts and immediately resist them with the support of law enforcement agencies on election day.

The Labour Party’s chief mobiliser, Wale Okunniyi, expressed optimism about the party’s chances of winning the first ballot election, citing its supporters’ readiness across the country. The 674,370 scouts are in addition to the same number of canvassers who will provide support to the lone agent per polling unit.

At each polling unit, the figure of Labour Party supporters translates to 11 personnel as the front line to protect the LP votes during the Saturday elections. The party has completed its logistical arrangements for the election by deploying 11 party supporters to each polling unit nationwide.

In addition to the official party agent registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), there will be five canvassers and five scouts in each polling unit area. The five scouts have a clear directive to look out for acts or activities that do not conform to the voting process and alert the party leadership.

The coalition of workers across Nigeria working for the Labour Party has pledged to vote for the Labour Party candidate and resist all attempts to undermine the electoral process. Okunniyi believes that with the party’s popularity and the vigilance of the Nigerian people, vote-buying attempts will be dealt with effectively.

Deploying such many polling unit scouts by the Labour Party is a proactive measure to curb electoral misconduct and ensure a free and fair election. It sends a strong message to other political parties that the Labour Party is committed to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and protecting the votes of Nigerians.

By deploying such a significant number of scouts, the Labour Party is also empowering its supporters to be actively involved in the electoral process and to take responsibility for ensuring that the election is free and fair. This is a positive step towards promoting civic engagement and building an electoral transparency and accountability culture.

In conclusion, the Labour Party’s deployment of over 600,000 polling unit scouts across the country is a commendable effort to checkmate electoral misconduct and promote electoral integrity. It indicates the party’s commitment to the democratic process and the well-being of Nigerians.
