Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has promised to reverse the naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Speaking to his supporters in Funtua, Katsina State, Kwankwaso pledged to allow Nigerians to deposit old 200, 500, and 1,000 naira banknotes and not ban them. He argued that implementing the apex bank’s policy would put more Nigerians in poverty, hunger, and hardship.
Kwankwaso further stated that the policy would lead to a crisis if not reviewed, particularly in a country where 133 million people are poor. He accused the policy of bringing calamity and suffering to many poor Nigerians.
If elected president, Kwankwaso promised to provide good governance, restore peace, address insecurity, and improve the economy. He also vowed to tackle insecurity and poverty and rebuild the country’s economy. Additionally, he promised to create job opportunities for the unemployed youth in the country, recruit more security personnel to fight the upsurge of insecurity, and revamp the nation’s educational sector for meaningful development.
