Actor turned presidential campaign council spokesperson for labour, Kenneth Okonkwo, took to twitter to call for the removal of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu. This follows the commission’s directive to the Sokoto State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Nura Ali, to stay away from the office.
The commission instructed Hauwa’u Kangiwa, the administrative Secretary of the commission, to take over the office in Sokoto immediately.
According to an anonymous source, the decision to ask the Sokoto REC to step down was due to the numerous challenges encountered during the last elections. Some of the challenges includes the late arrival of materials at polling units and improper conduct of poorly trained ad-hoc staff.
Reacting to this development, Nollywood Actor Kenneth Okonkwo, called for Mahmood’s dismissal as well as that of the Lagos State and Rivers RECs. He alleges that they stole from Nigerians. He stated that Nigerians must insist on their sack, adding that the mandate freely given by the people of Nigeria on February 25th must be recovered.
