Interim Government: DSS Confirms Plot by Misguided

The Department of State Services (DSS) has uncovered a plot by some misguided influential figures to disrupt the May 29 handover to the newly elected government in Nigeria. DSS strongly warns those planing to thwart democracy in the country to retract from their devious schemes.

Part of the plan is to obtain frivolous court injunctions to prevent the inauguration of new executive administrations.

The DSS confirmed a commitment to working with relevant organizations, and individual groups to ensure a successful inauguration. This aligns with President Muhammadu Buhari’s promise to hand over to the President-elect, Bola Tinubu. The secret police have called on those planning to subvert democracy in Nigeria to desist from their schemes. They cautioned judicial authorities, media, and civil society to be vigilant and not be used as tools to destabilize the nation.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, the DSS vowed to take legal actions against those involved in the plot to frustrate their plans. It pledged its support to the Presidential Transition Council and other related bodies in the states. It will collaborate with them and other law enforcement agencies to ensure seamless inaugurations on May 29, 2023.

“The Service considers the plot, pursued by these entrenched interests, as not only an aberration but a mischievous way to set aside the constitution and undermine civil rule and plunge the country into an avoidable crisis. The illegality is unacceptable in a democracy and to the peace-loving Nigerians,” the statement read.

The DSS is relentlessin its commitment to ensuring a smooth handover of power in Nigeria. And calls on all stakeholders to join hands in safeguarding democracy and the peace and stability of the nation.
