INEC Provides Update on Uploaded Results and BVAS Reconfiguration

INEC has provided an update on the recently concluded February 25th presidential and National Assembly elections. According to Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC, over 170,000 polling unit results have been uploaded on its Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

Furthermore, Okoye disclosed that the Bimodal Voter Registration Systems (BVAS) reconfiguring will be completed by Tuesday, March 14th, in preparation for the upcoming March 18th governorship and state Assembly elections. He shared this information while appearing on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program.

Okoye stated that no political party will be given access to the BVAS machine. The machine is used to electronically transmit votes and voter accreditation. He emphasized that the BVAS system can only be reset if all the data has been pushed to the accreditation backend.

“The BVAS will not allow itself to be reconfigured or reset if the entire data isn’t pushed to the accreditation backend. I am sure that by Tuesday, when we hope to complete the resettling of the BVAS for the purposes of the governorship and state assembly elections, the results in all the places where elections were conducted would’ve been pushed to the accreditation backend.”
