I Deliberately Shut the Borders – President Buhari.

I deliberately shut the borders, says President Muhammadu Buhari. The outgoing President Buhari confirmed that closing the country’s border was intentional.

During the inauguration of the new custom headquarters on Tuesday, May 23, President Buhari noted that he closed the country’s border to enable Nigerians to produce food for themselves.

“Please note that from Lake Chad to Benin Republic is more than 1,600 kilometres; only God can efficiently guard the borders. So, you need a person with the energy and the competence to supervise. I deliberately closed the borders because knowing Nigerians and the rest, and then they bring the rice here.”

“People got back to the lands – we have them, and we produced what we eat. Let whoever grows excess rice eat his own rice or sell it somewhere else.”

While this seemed unsatisfying to the citizens, Buhari has said that the citizens later appreciated this decision.

Buhari added that jobs were made available as a result of his decision and, most importantly, to make Nigerians self-sufficient.

“You eat what you grow, or you die. I tried to make my point. Later Nigerians appreciated it because it provided more Jobs.”

“So closing that border- 1,600 kilometres from lake chad to Benin – and Nigerians insist that they have to impress their neighbours and other people, and they eat foreign rice. I said, ‘No rice’.” He stated.
