The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has established 56,872 new polling units ahead of the 2023 general election in Nigeria to enhance voters’ access to polling units. To assist voters in locating their polling units, the commission has introduced several innovations facilitated by technology.
Voters can locate or confirm their polling units by sending an SMS with their voting state, last name, and the last six digits of their Voter Identification Number (VIN) to any dedicated lines: 09062830860, 09062830861, for example, FCT Magaji 445322.
To avoid the challenge of voters turning up at the wrong polling units, the commission offers two ways for voters to locate and confirm their polling units before election day. The detailed procedure can be found on the INEC website or by sending inquiries to INEC public outreach platforms shown in the attached design.
Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of INEC, urged all eligible voters to confirm their voting locations ahead of election day to contribute to the avowed commitment to deliver credible, inclusive, and transparent elections.
