The transfer of power from President Buhari to his successor, Bola Tinubu, the Presdient-elect of the APC, is in progress. Presidential Transition Council (PTC) is responsible for managing the process.
However, Kana stated that the council’s primary goal is to ensure a smooth governance transition for the incoming president.
Kana revealed that the council has already established a roadmap for the next leader, enabling a quick start of their administration. Additionally, the council will focus on the nine priority areas of the current administration, with particular attention given to security concerns. The Ministry of Defence has established a ministerial transition task team to oversee the process.
Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) inaugurated the the Presidential Transition Council was on February 14.
The council’s responsibilities:
- Ensure the President-elect’s and Vice President-elect’s security, scheduling briefings on security matters post-election,
- Provide fully equipped offices and personnel for the President-elect and their transition team, and
- Organise the swearing-in ceremony.
To facilitate the council’s activities, Dr Habiba Lawal, the SA to the President on Policy and Coordination, serves as the Secretary of the PTC per Executive Order No. 14 of 2023.
Also, Kana emphasised the council’s commitment to ensuring a seamless transition of power. Noting that they are working tirelessly to provide the incoming president with all the necessary support for a successful tenure.
The PTC’s efforts are expected to pave the way for continued progress and development in Nigeria as the transfer of power approaches.
