The Exit of Ayu as PDP Chairman: Sani’s comments

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani() has commented on the recent removal of Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Sani took to his Twitter account to express his views on Ayu’s leadership style. He stated that Ayu had led the party from the “City of Sodom” to the “Desert of Gomorrah”.

The suspension of Ayu followed allegations of anti-party activities and failure to pay membership dues by the Igorov ward executive committee in the Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State. A former aide to Governor Samuel Ortom, Conrad Utaan, also filed a suit against Ayu, resulting in a Benue State High Court ruling that barred Ayu from parading himself as the party’s chairman. Ayu stepped aside in compliance with the court order and expressed his intention to appeal his suspension.

To fill the vacuum left by Ayu’s suspension, the PDP appointed Umar Damagum, the Deputy National Chairman (North), as the acting national chairman.
