Fighting for Posterity – Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), Labour Party Gubernatorial candidate for Lagos state in the 2023 elections, appeared on Arise TV today. He reiterated his stance on the just concluded elections calling it a sham. He said that the Lagos state government declared war on Lagosians as evinced by the violence marred the exercise.

Gbadebo said the APC manufactured the ethnic divide as a boogeyman to distract from their attempts to create a one-party state. He acknowledged the Igbo half of his heritage and asked, why the narrative was to vote APC and nothing else if the motivation was purely tribal. GRV pointed out that other fully Yoruba candidates were never brought up. He said that it caused widespread disenfranchisement of indigenous and nonindigenous Lagosians.

He says his focus is on the petition submitted to the court challenging the electoral process. Also, to bring succor to those who were assaulted, and mourn the dead during the election period.

Mr. Gbadebo said “I love Lagos, I don’t want Lagos torn apart by violence but what I’m asking is for any normal person looking at this scenario. If this scenario is allowed to stand, anyone thinking about future elections will not be thinking of debates. They will just be preparing for violence and that’s why we must resist it”

The Governorship aspirant rejected calls for healing saying

“There can be no healing when there is no justice. You cannot say you want peace when it’s peace from a graveyard. They want to perpetuate these things and then gaslight us like they never happened but this only worsens the problem. As long as you keep trying to suppress people you’ll always have problems”
