Aisha Yesufu, a co-founder of Bring Back Our Girls, is pushing for major electoral reforms in Nigeria. Specifically, she wants all primary elections – presidential, gubernatorial, National Assembly, and state houses of assembly – to be held on the same day instead of being staggered as they currently are.
In a tweet, Yesufu called for further electoral reform, including early voting for essential workers, the inclusion of candidate photos on ballot papers alongside party logos, and making it easier to recall legislators.
She suggests that rather than requiring 50% of registered voters to support a recall, it should be enough to have 50% of the votes the legislator initially received.
Yesufu believes that Nigerians living abroad should be allowed to vote only if they hold a Nigerian passport.
