Peter Obi has run on a platform of integrity and accountability, always daring people to “go and verify” his claims and promising to resign if anyone could pin any malfeasance on him or his running mate, Yusuf, Datti.
In a now-deleted tweet, the head of media of the APC presidential campaign organization, Bayo Onanuga, accused Peter Obi of lying about his claim to not have received any land allocation as Governor of Anambra State. According to Mr. Onanuga, writing on his twitter handle @aonanuga1956, “Peter Obi claimed he never got a plot of land while Governor of Anambra State. The Labour candidate lies again. He is busted with a letter of land allocation.” However, the tweet was hastily deleted.
The deletion may have been as a result of becoming aware of another letter written by Peter Obi a day after the date of the letter of allocation wherein he rejected said allocation. Mr. Onanuga was immediately called out by supporters of Peter Obi.
A tweep, Great Oracle using the handle @AbdulMahmud01, mocked Mr. Onanuga: “Caught lying by G.O, chief propagandist of the Lagos Fuhrer, Bayo Goebbels @aonanuga1956, deletes his tweet. Na so we go dey expose them” while posting Mr. Onanuga’s deleted tweet side by side a copy of Peter Obi’s letter rejecting the land allocation.
To this tweet, Mr. Onanuga responded, seemingly defending his earlier tweet: “What is the lie in the tweet? I deleted because I found another letter that superseded the land allocation. Fact was PO was allotted a plot of land, which he rejected. Stop making a mountain out of a mole hill”.
