Desmond apologizes for referring to people as children

Famous Nigerian actor turned politician Desmond Elliot issued another public apology for his insensitive comments towards Nigerian youths. Desmond’s apology is based of the comment he made on youths during the EndSARS protests in October 2020. Elliot, who represents the Surulere I constituency at the Lagos State legislature, received backlash on social media for referring to youths as “children” after they reacted to the Lekki Tollgate shootings.

He also pushed for the regulation of social media in the aftermath of the protests.

In October 2020, Elliot issued a statement apologising to those offended by his comments. However, during a recent interview on TVC’s ‘Your View,’ he offered further clarification. He stated that he was not referring to all youths on social media as children, specifically those cursing Lagos House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru.

Elliot emphasised the importance of forgiveness and acknowledged that his comments might have been misconstrued. He stated, “I apologised, and I’m still apologising to those who must have misconstrued what I said. We are all built on love and can change things through love.”
