Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), was at the palace of the Obi of Onitsha today, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe CFR, mni on a special visit.
NewedUP Reporter gathered that, during the visit, Datti assured Igwe that the LP presidential candidate Peter Obi will win the 2023 presidential election. He based his assurance on the fact that the LP candidate is the most decent and qualified among other candidates, and 2023 is the turn of Ndigbo and the turn of Christians to produce the next President of Nigeria.
He further stated that, among all the past governors in Nigeria, Obi is the only one that left money in the government coffers while leaving office, and there was no case of corruption levelled against him by the anti-graft agencies. He also believed that his principal is the best person Nigeria needs to unite us and, at the same time, revive the dwindling nation’s economy.
In his remarks, Igwe Achebe expressed concern that the entire South-East are working to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the country. He advises that all electorate vote according to their conscience, irrespective of whether some overzealous politicians or not give them money.
The Obi of Onitsha provided a brief of the meeting of traditional rulers in the South-East in Enugu on Wednesday. In the communique, all the traditional rulers have been directed to organise a town hall meeting to sensitise their subjects to shun threats to the election, sit at home, and come out en mass to vote for the candidates of their choice on election day, says the Igwe.
Obi of Onitsha also appealed to INEC to ensure a free, fair and transparent election; also appealed to the law enforcement agencies in the country to provide adequate security for the electorate from the menace of political thugs and unknown gunmen.
