Benue and Zamfara Attacks: Obi speaks out

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has expressed his dismay over the recent violent attacks and abductions in Benue and Zamfara states. In a tweet on Sunday, he called on the government to take drastic measures to tackle the issue.

“I am deeply saddened by reports of the visceral violence and gruesome killing of the internally displaced people (IDPs) in Benue state and other parts of Benue, and the kidnapping of dozens of people in Wanzamai village in Zamfara. Such bloodletting is unconscionable and stands condemned,” Obi stated.

He further emphasized that the government and all stakeholders must take extraordinary measures to address this menace that is negatively impacting the nation. He also expressed his condolences to the families and friends of all those affected.

The attacks have resulted in the loss of many lives and injuries. In Nyiev Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue state, 38 people were killed and 51 injured when killer herdsmen attacked an Internally Displaced Persons camp. On Friday, 80 children were abducted in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State by bandits.

It is important for the government to take action to ensure the safety and security of citizens. As Obi stated, “We must work together to make our country safe for all.”
