Supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, staged a protest in the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday. The protesters, primarily youths, gathered at Unity Fountain in Abuja, demanding the cancellation of the allegedly manipulated presidential election results.
Isaac Balami, the Labour Party’s National Campaign Manager, addressed the gathering and claimed that the party had agents with results different from the ones announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Balami alleged the party’s mandate had been stolen and stated they were there to demand its restoration.
Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner of the election by INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu. Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat his closest rivals, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who scored 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes, respectively.
