APC chieftain, Biodun Ajiboye, has claimed that the Indigenous of Biafra (IPOB) helped Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, win the February 25 election in Lagos State. In an interview on Arise TV, Ajiboye alleged that Obi rode on the back of religious and tribal sentiments to defeat the APC in the last presidential election.
Ajiboye accused Obi of not speaking out against the secessionist movement, IPOB, and claimed that the group is one of the significant reasons the Labour Party must not be allowed to lead Lagos State. He also pointed to the EndSARS protest as a factor that affected the APC in the last election, stating that the youths are still harbouring the incidents of the national protest.
According to Ajiboye, the LP and the Obedient Movement took the APC by surprise and shook their political foundation in the presidential election. He vowed that they will never allow a repeat of such a situation in the upcoming March 18 governorship and state assembly elections.
He stated, “Why do I call it a calamity? People do not comprehend the enormity of what it would be for the Labour Party to win Lagos State. There’s a secessionist group called IPOB which the Federal Government of Nigeria has prohibited. However, they are still functioning very actively in the East, and there was never a time Peter Obi spoke against IPOB. And the kind of electoral wins Peter Obi recorded in the East indicates that IPOB worked for him.”
