The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused recent polls in favor of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, of being designed to incite unrest by creating false hope for his supporters. The Special Adviser on Media and Strategic Communications for the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Dele Alake, made the accusation during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
Alake insisted that there was no evidence indicating that Obi would win the 2023 presidential election and that the Labour Party has no chance of victory. He argued that the security agencies should keep pollsters under watch as they prepare the ground for unrest by giving false hope of winning to Mr. Obi’s supporters who have a predilection for violence and intimidation of those who think differently from them.
Alake stressed that the presidential election would be a straight contest between the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with the APC’s candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, likely to emerge as the victor based on more accurate polling. Despite the challenges of the currency swap and fuel scarcity that have caused difficulties for Nigerians across social and economic classes, Alake believes that Tinubu is coasting home to victory.
Alake added that the APC found the ANAP/NOI and Nextier polls projecting Mr. Obi as the winner or preferred candidate to be amusing, as he believes that the polls are merely designed to incite violence and unrest among his supporters when he loses the election.
