The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has endorsed Labour Party’s presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed for the 2023 presidency, just four days before the scheduled election on Saturday, February 25, 2023. The endorsement was made during a gathering held at the River Plate Gardens in Abuja on Monday morning, February 20, 2023.
The move to endorse the Obi/Datti team is seen as a strategic manoeuvre, which further cements their political prowess. The duo has already gathered an impressive array of influential supporters under the banner of a grand coalition, including groups such as Nigeria Mothers for Good Governance, Fulani United, and League of Imams.
Notably, the endorsement was attended by several prominent individuals, including the ADC National Chairman, BoT Chairman, and a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), Professor Pat Utomi.
It remains to be seen what impact this endorsement will have on the upcoming election. Nevertheless, it highlights the importance of political alliances and coalition-building in Nigerian politics. As the election draws closer, likely, other political parties and interest groups will also make their stances known in support of their preferred candidates.
