A Federal High Court in Yola, Adamawa State removed Hon Musa Umar Bororo, a member of the State House of Assembly. Bororo is representing Mubi South Constituency. The court’s decision was based because Bororo defected from the party under which he won the election to the House.
In April 2022, Bororo left the APC, the opposition party in the state, for the PDPP the ruling party. Justice Saleh Kogo, who presided over the case, ruled that Bororo, elected under the APC, could not defect to the PDP and remain in office.
Last year in October, the APC leadership in the state filed a suit against the three legislators, requesting the court to declare their seats vacant for leaving the APC. However, only Bororo was found guilty and removed from office, while the other two were cleared of any wrongdoing.
As quoted by the court, “the Assembly was bound by law to declare their seats vacant.” This verdict is expected to have significant political implications, as the PDP and APC are the two major political parties in the state.
