2023 Presidential Election: INEC Performed Woefully.

Kingsley Moghalu, the former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its performance during the February 25 presidential election. Moghalu claimed that the commission had failed and called for a complete overhaul of the electoral body.

In a post on his Twitter account, Moghalu expressed disappointment in the 28% turnout for the 2023 presidential election, which was lower than the 34% turnout for the 2019 election. He questioned why 87 million voters collected their PVCs, yet such low voter turnout was experienced. He called for the election to be made logistically efficient and transparent.

Moghalu stated that the issue of low voter turnout should be interrogated to understand why it happened. He believes that such low voter turnout undermines the meaning of democracy. Moghalu stressed that INEC’s performance was woeful and that Nigeria’s institution and election management need a complete overhaul to make elections more efficient and transparent.
