2023 Elections: Two dead as Kano NNPP campaign office set on fire

On Sunday, thugs set ablaze the campaign office of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) House of Representatives candidate in Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano state. Two persons in a stationary vehicle within the building were burnt to death in the resulting inferno. The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the incident and arrest of four suspected hoodlums. The thugs mobilised and attacked the campaign office while the collation of results was ongoing at the Tudun Wada Local Government Area INEC office.

The police reported that the suspected hoodlums mobilised again after the initial attack and attempted to block the road leading to the INEC office, prompting security personnel to respond to the scene. During the response, one of the thugs was fatally injured and later died in the hospital while receiving treatment.

The Kano State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the incident and stated an ongoing investigation, after which the suspects would be charged in court. The incident adds to the already growing concerns over the safety of voters and election-related activities in the country, particularly as the general election continues.
