On Friday, the leader of the Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, claimed that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, received over one million votes in Lagos State during the 2023 presidential election. Adebanjo also stated that some people currently praising president-elect Bola Tinubu will eventually send him away from the position.
During an interview on Arise TV, Adebanjo called on Nigerians not to expect much from President Muhammadu Buhari on the issue, as he entered the office through fraudulent means. Adebanjo criticised Buhari’s lack of justice, citing the example of the electoral commissioner in Kano who refused to cooperate with rigging during the 2015 election and was burned alive with his family, with no arrest made to date.
Adebanjo further alleged that the results in Lagos had been mismanaged and tampered with. He stated that the results that belonged to Obi were altered, so they have not been released. He criticised the lack of transparency and questioned why they were reluctant to prove the results.
Regarding Tinubu, Adebanjo stated that he would be another Shonekan and be sent away by some people rejoicing over his win. He emphasised that the issue was not about Yoruba and Igbo but rather a national matter. Adebanjo criticised the fairness of the current governors, alleging that many of them came into office through the rigging.
