Court Orders DSS to Allow Emefiele Access Lawyer. The high court of the Federal Capital Territory, sitting in Maitama, Abuja, has directed the Department of State Services (DSS) to permit the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, to access his lawyers and family members.
Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspended Emefiele on 9th June. And he was arrested a few hours after his suspension.
The court sitting in Maitama, presided by Justice Hamza Muazu on Friday, noted that access is the constitutional right of Emefiele.
The court’s order is coming after Emefiele’s counsel, J.B Daudu, SAN, revealed in an application that there has been no response from the DSS since he requested to access his client on the 24th of June, 2023.
In response, I. Awo, counsel to the DSS, stated that the service is not known for rejecting such requests and noted that it was improper.
Awo assured further compliance from the DSS with the court to grant Emefiele access to his lawyer and family.
Both the counsels to the DSS and the office of the attorney general of the federation requested an extension of time to file their response to the originating motion.
The court granted the request, leading to the adjournment of the case to Tuesday, June 19, 2023.
