US Visa Ban on Individuals After the 2023 Election

US Visa Ban on Individuals Who Undermined the Democracy during Nigeria’s 2023 Election. What you should know? While the aftermath of the heat generated in Nigeria’s 2023 election is yet to cool off, another roller coaster at the back of the election surfaces.

According to the tweet by Anthony J. Blinken, Secretary of the States, the U.S. remain committed to supporting Nigerian aspirations to strengthen the democratic rule of law, citing Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Section 212(a)(3)(C):

Foreign nationals may be inadmissible if granting the foreign national a visa would cause potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the US.

An alien whose entry or proposed activities in the United States the Secretary of State has reasonable ground to believe would have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States is inadmissible.

Exemption to the above section

Under the same section of the act, there is an exemption for the U.S Visa Ban, and it states:

This section shall not apply to an alien who is an official of a foreign government or a purported government, or who is a candidate for election to a foreign government officials during the period immediately preceding the election for that office, shall not be excludable or subject to restrictions or conditions on entry into the United States solely because of the alien’s past, current, or expected beliefs, statements, or associations if such beliefs, statements, or associations would be lawful within the United States.

The puzzle questions are; who are these specific individuals and why are they not named? Does this mean, the individuals who still hold offices in the government are out of context?
