Before the general elections, Brymo revoked the Igbo and its candidate from the presidential race, causing him intense replies from Audience.
Self-proclaimed first-sonic artist Olawale Ashimi, also known as Brymo, has disclosed how he felt about forfeiting the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
The 8th edition of the music award, tagged ‘Teranga Edition’, was nullified from its regular November date to January 12–15, 2023, in Dakar, Senegal, and left Brymo to relinquish the award categories for ‘Best Songwriter of the Year,’ and ‘Best Album of Year.’
According to the official Twitter account of @phylixblog, the singer was asked about how he felt about losing the awards linking it to trouble that saturated the time of the nomination and the petitions that were filed against him.
Brymo said,
“There’s a songwriting category but they shouldn’t nominate sonic artists. I was looking forward to it anyway, and then something happened. I got into trouble talking about Biafra leaving and staying. So I stayed out of AFRIMA and didn’t attack the award afterwards. Not winning had nothing to do with southeast fracas. Everything only just came together.”
