“They’ve made us victims and suspects” _ Bishop Kukah laments

While speaking at the Parents Summits of the 2023 Education in Edo state, Bishop Kukah characterized the persons responsible for the ravaging insecurities in the country as anti-humanity.

Nigeria has continued to face substantial insecurities including Boko Haram, banditry, and kidnapping. The clergy bemoaned the impact that the rise of insecurity has had on education in the country.

As we can see, our country is now being ravaged and threatened by the forces of darkness, those who have said no to humanity and those who have said no to education, whether they manifest themselves in the murderous and destructive excesses of Boko Haram or banditry,” he said.

Not only have they destroyed the image of the country, they’ve destroyed the image of religion. They have made us victims and suspects.

He went on to describe the  perpetrators as “people of darkness”. He called for unity among citizens to “fight with every drop of our blood” to push back against the perpetrators.

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, is an outspoken advocate for education in Nigeria and pledged to “come running” whenever beckoned on regarding issues of education.
