Peter Obi Condemns Salary Hike for Politicians

Peter Obi Condemns Salary Hike for Politicians. The labour party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised the 114% salary hikes for political office holders recently approved by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

According to reports, this increase applies to positions such as the President, Vice President, Lawmakers, Governors and also officers in the public sector.

In a lengthy tweet on Thursday, Peter Obi expressed utmost dismay stating that this increase is a bad choice considering the country’s dwindling economy. He said that about 130 million people are living in poverty, so it’s untimely to hike the salaries of government officials.

Obi called on leaders to be selfless, putting the masses’ needs before theirs. He asked that leaders pay attention to reducing the high cost of living among the citizens and alleviating the suffering of the citizens.

He stated that those salary increases should be geared towards improving the health sectors, education and poverty reduction, especially in the rural areas.

Below are the threads of his tweet.
