Kano State Government Defends Monument Demolition

Kano State government defends the demolition of the monument building. The State Government said demolishing the multi-million naira building structure was done in the public’s interest. Some residents criticised the decision.

Residents of Kano State woke up to the news about the demolition to see the destruction of the historic multi-million naira roundabout constructed by the immediate past administration of Abdullahi Ganduje.

Residents React as Kano State Government Defends

However, some residents expressed concern about how the Golden Jubilee roundabout. The structure started symbolising Kano from all across the country and was demolished. A Resident said that the decision was a bit early. The public should have been informed if there was a plan. The government should have told the people of the motive behind the demolition.

Also, in responding to the demolition, another Resident expressed total displeasure. He said the monument building represents the tradition and culture of Kano state. The building has a meaning as the previous government did not just wake up to build.

Meanwhile, Baffa Bichi, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), defended the government’s action and said the demolition was done for the people’s good. The structure posed a security threat to the government house.

Baffa Bichi stated that there are two reasons for the demolition:

  1. The gate of the government house should be an area with a long traffic jam.
  2. Desire to relocate it to an appropriate location.

The SSG also confirms that the state will demolish all illegal structures built around worship centres, Kano city walls, markets, schools and Graveyards.
