Federal High Court has stopped the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trades Union Congress (TUC) from embarking on the nationwide strike scheduled for Wednesday, June 7, 2023. NewsedUP gathered that a Federal High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) granted an interim order restraining the NLC and TUC from going on strike from Wednesday as planned until the determination of the motion on notice. Justice O. Y. Anuwe issued the order today and adjourned further hearing till 19 June.
See the Notice from Court below:
Some of the reasons provided by the court are as follows:
- The STricke will affect the students of Secondary Schools nationwide, especially those writing WAEC exams
- The tertiary institutions that have only just resumed after a long ASUU strike will also be affected.
- Others include the health sector; and, above all, the economy of the nation.
Based on the above and other reasons as highlighted in the document above, Justice O.Y. Anuwe restrained the defendants (the TUC and the NLC) from embarking on the planned nationwide strike Wednesday pending the hearing and determination of the motion of notice dated June 5, 2023.
