South-East Governors unanimously agreed to name the bridge in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari. Ahmed Bashir, the Special Assistant on Digital Communication to President, confirmed this decision. The Governors in the South Eastern states of Nigeria resolved to call the bridge “Muhammadu Buhari Second Niger Bridge.“
In Bashir’s tweet, he said,
The bridge links Asaba, Delta state, and Onitsha, Anambra state is coming 58 years after the previous one. President Muhammadu Buhari commissioned the bridge virtually via Zoom on May 23. In the absence of the president at the event, Chris Ngige represented him.
Speaking at the event, the president said,
The Governor of Anambra state, Charles Soludo, on behalf of the South-East Governors, has expressed profound happiness over the commissioning of the bridge and sees it as a positive turnaround in economic growth in the southeastern region.
