South-East Governors Name the 2nd Niger Bridge

South-East Governors unanimously agreed to name the bridge in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari. Ahmed Bashir, the Special Assistant on Digital Communication to President, confirmed this decision. The Governors in the South Eastern states of Nigeria resolved to call the bridge “Muhammadu Buhari Second Niger Bridge.

In Bashir’s tweet, he said,

“The name is now being officiated. Thank God for our brand new “Muhammadu Buhari Bridge. Thank you, President Muhammadu Buhari.”

The bridge links Asaba, Delta state, and Onitsha, Anambra state is coming 58 years after the previous one. President Muhammadu Buhari commissioned the bridge virtually via Zoom on May 23. In the absence of the president at the event, Chris Ngige represented him.

Speaking at the event, the president said,

“The bridge was one of the critical infrastructures delivered by his administration to fight poverty, promote economic growth and ensure progress for the people.

The Governor of Anambra state, Charles Soludo, on behalf of the South-East Governors, has expressed profound happiness over the commissioning of the bridge and sees it as a positive turnaround in economic growth in the southeastern region.

“Mr President, you have lifted a lot of load for those of us who followed you when(2015) you made the promise to deliver the SecondNigerBridge This bridge signifies a major handshake between East and West, and East and North. We are all grateful Mr.President” _
